Gatlinburg Community Reaches Out to Back to School Kids

It truly was a Blessings Blow Out as kids from Gatlinburg along with their families gathered for Food, Fellowship and Fun before back packs and hygiene kits were distributed August 8th at the first annual event. Thanks to the many people of Gatlinburg through the churches and individually who gave for this event to be a success. We especially thank First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, Our Savior Lutheran Church and Trinity Episcopal Church all of Gatlinburg Tennessee for their donations of supplies, funding, and volunteers.

FIN hosts Bike and Build Group May 31st

It was a pleasure to host our friends with Bike and Build, a non profit group of 18-26 year old young adults who are biking across the country as they raise money and awareness for affordable housing options and organizations throughout the country. Through presentations, along with hands on building, Bike and Build is able to raise money for grant projects which is then in turn awarded to agencies throughout the country who are working to bring affordable housing options to those who need it. We wish them the very best of luck on their journey and look forward to being able to host them again next year!

Friends in Need Featured on WBIR

The Friends in Need Back Pack program was featured recently on WBIR, Knoxville, TN. The Back Pack program feeds over 200 Sevier County children and teenagers over the weekend when school is out. Bags of healthy snacks are packed each Thursday at 9:00 AM at the FIN storage and operating offices, located behind Alamo Steakhouse in Gatlinburg, next to First Baptist Church. These bags are packed up ready for delivery on Fridays. We currently deliver to 4 schools in the area.
Drink Boxes are something we are in continuous need of. Can your organization or church do a drink box drive for FIN? Contact our agency via our contact page of our web site! Read the story on WBIR here!

Afterschool Programs Begin!

Friends in Need of Gatlinburg, Tennessee now has two afterschool programs in operation on Mondays and Thursdays. Currently three Gatlinburg churches work together to bring these programs to the community. First United Methodist Church handles the transportation, while First Baptist Church and Our Savior Lutheran Church host the programs. Games, homework help , hot meals, and worship opportunities offer the chance for the children to connect to adults with one on one mentoring.
